Teaching Artistry

I have worked in K-12 and community settings, as a Resident Artist for the Calgary Board of Education and as a teaching artist for "What Is Opera, Anyway?", developing customized music and opera education programming that suits the needs and interests of learners of all ages. As a teaching artist for Calgary Opera, I have led projects including mindful music listening sessions for healthcare workers, a cross-cultural music sharing group for immigrant women, and a song-writing project for high school students.

I recently completed my Master’s degree in Music Education at the Eastman School of Music where I was awarded the Teaching Assistant Prize for group voice instruction. I designed a pre-concert listening workshop series for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra for my thesis and conducted additional research on Nadia Boulanger’s pedagogy of music listening, which continues to inform my innovative curriculum development.

Research

Versed in quantitative and qualitative research methods, I am currently the graduate research assistant on a pilot project that saw the integrative "Oslo Model" of Alexander Technique instruction tried for the first time in North America at the Eastman School of Music over the2019-2020 academic year. I drafted a research proposal, organized logistic details, conducted qualitative interviews, coded, and analyzed the data. This project will be presented at the 64th National College Music Society Conference in Rochester, NY, in October 2021.

I am also Co-Principal Investigator on a historical music education study that examines the creation, development, and legacy of the Orff Schulwerk Teacher Education Course at the Eastman School of Music, which ran from 1992-2019.

I also am very interested in bringing research strategies into program evaluation for teaching artist projects that I am a part of.
